  • I don’t have a computer and/or an internet connection, can I still enrol?
Yes! You can access the course from a computer, tablet or smartphone. If you don’t have access to any of these devices then we can provide loan devices for those who need one. We can also provide a loan WiFi dongle for those without an Internet connection at home. Please contact digitalUPLIFT Programme Coordinator, Ellie Smith, at ellie@tecgirls.co.uk if you need support with a device and/or access to the internet.
  • How much time do I need to commit to each week?
In the first week, there will be an in-person launch event and confidence building workshop that runs on 28th February, 10.00 – 14.45. During week 4 there will be an in person coding workshop from 11.30 - 14.30 and week 10 will include the graduation and networking event from 11.00-14.00. Every other week, learning content will be delivered online through Moodle. Each module will require a few hours of your time. The learning content has been broken down into bite size chunks so you can learn around your other responsibilities at a time that works best for you.
  • I don’t live in Cornwall; can I still enrol?
At this time, the programme is only available to those residing in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
  • I don’t have GCSEs; can I still enrol?
Yes! There are no education requirements for this programme.
  • I’d like to participate in the in-person events, but I don’t think I can afford the transport costs. Is there an allowance available?
We want to remove all barriers for women to enter the tech/digital sector. If you are concerned about the affordability of travel to the in-person events, please contact Programme Coordinator, Ellie Smith, on ellie@tecgirls.co.uk and we will help.
  • I don’t know how to use a computer; can I still enrol?
The minimum requirement is that you are able to access course materials on the Internet and communicate online. That means basic digital skills such as using social media, emails and using internet search engines. If you are not able to do this, please contact Programme Coordinator, Ellie Smith, on ellie@tecgirls.co.uk and we will support you in finding the relevant training so that you are able to join us on the next programme.
  • How much does the course cost?
digitalUPLIFT is fully funded and costs nothing for you to participate. This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
  • I’m interested in the programme, but I’m unable to attend the in-person events. Can I still enrol?
Yes! We highly encourage you to attend the in person events if you can, particularly the launch and graduation. However, we understand this might be challenging for people who work full time.
  • After completing this programme, will I be able to move straight into a job?
It depends. Over the course of the programme, you will be introduced to the many, varied tech/digital jobs that exist. Depending on your previous experience and preferred career route, you may be ready to apply for an entry level position and we will support you with that. If you want to move into a specialist role, then it is likely that you will need to move into further training. Again, we can help you with that.
  • I’m under 18, can I still enrol?
Unfortunately you will not be able to enrol for this programme. However, we are planning future programmes for under 18’s and TECgirls regularly runs other activities for younger women. Please keep an eye on our social media and website for upcoming events and workshops.
  • I’m interested in enrolling in the programme, but lack of confidence is holding me back.
OK, so this isn’t a question, but we hear this type of statement from a lot of women. The programme’s launch event will include a confidence building workshop to help you get the best out of the programme and yourself! The digitalUPLIFT programme is designed specifically for women who know nothing or very little about the tech/digital sector and jobs. It is a friendly, supportive and safe environment for you to learn alongside like-minded people and to help build your confidence.
  • I’m not sure if I want to have a job in the tech/digital sector or even what jobs there are; can I still enrol?
Yes! This programme is designed to provide you with an introduction to tech/digital jobs available in Cornwall. We hope that you find something you love and that you want to continue with through further training or into a related job, but there is no commitment. The programme is your opportunity to explore this in a safe and supportive environment.
  • I only have a tablet, rather than a computer, can I still enrol?
Yes! The lessons and support group will be online so any device that enables you to access the Internet will work.
  • Will lunch be provided at in-person events?
Yes! Lunch is provided at all in-person events and we cater for all dietary requirements.

digitalUPLIFT and its associated programmes is run and managed by TECwomen CIC.

cyberUPLIFT is funded by Innovate UK's Cyber Local Fund.
